Dr. Own C. Berg organized the Temple Camera Club in December 1975 as an affiliate of the Temple Cultural Activities Center and the Photographic Society of America. Dr. Burg was a "fellow" fo the Photographoc Society of America, a "Diamond Star" exhibitor in Color. He was a nationally recognized photographer and judge.

Bob Chaison of Temple was elected the first President. The club attracted many people interested photography from a wide area around Temple. The name of the club was changed in 1977 to "Centeral Texas Photographic Society" to more appropriately fit the membership and later to "Central Texas Camera Club".

After the death of Dr. Berg in 1980, the Society established the "Dr. Owen C. Berg Award" to be given annually to the member who contributed the most to the clubs activities.
